Seas of Red

The Tower of London is marking the centenary of The First World War with a dramatic and emotive art installation, which officially opens tomorrow. ‘Blood Swept Lands’ and ‘Seas of Red’, by artist Paul Cummins and stage designer Tom Piper, involves a total of 888,246 red, ceramic poppies filling the moat at the Tower. Each Poppy, the traditional and iconic flower for the war fallen, represents a British military fatality from World War One. The final poppy will be symbolically planted on Remembrance Day on November 11th later this year. I think it’s safe to say this is “hair on end” stuff! There is something so powerful and emotional about the mass of red that is beyond thought provoking and spine tingling. Wow. Simply breathtaking. xx
